Rhonda Approved Protein+ Smoothie Mix

Green Green Smoothies 2

Smoothies are important part of my healthier lifestyle.  Admittedly, I simply feel and look better on more of a plant-based diet.  This is especially true as I’ve gotten older.  But why wait to get older to live healthier?  Start now, no matter your age!

For nearly five years, I’ve tried many recipes, prep techniques, types of equipment and even the best containers to use for grab-n-go convenience.  After what’s in it – the most often question I’m asked is what type of protein mix do I use?  I’ve tried perhaps eight to ten different brands on my smoothie journey.  Most have been pretty unappealing to my taste buds; and my family’s as well!  I would read the labels very carefully trying to eliminate whatever it was that gave the mixes that familiar fake, chalky, and too sweet taste.  My  youngest son has a similar keenly developed sense of taste as me and would usually say, “Is there protein powder in here?  I can taste it!”

After many brands had been pushed to the back of the pantry or thrown out all together, I came across the BlendItUp during a taste testing at Costco.  It is sold by the folks who do the Vitamix machines.  For us, the taste is indistinguishable from the delicious fruits and veggies in your blend.  It is organic, vegan, plant-based and gluten-free.  Per serving, it has 14 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, only 2 grams of sugar and 0 grams of sodium.

If you live near a Costco, great – especially when the representatives are there with a demo of tasty goodies from smoothies to soup to sorbet.  If you don’t or they’re in-between road shows, you can order from Amazon using my link in the photo above.  You’ll also find more detailed nutritional information and tons of reviews.  But take it from me, this one is a winner in my smoothie toolbox!  If you’re looking for a new kitchen workhorse in the form of a Vitamix machine, check out this link for more information.

Another must add goodie for my smoothies are Chia Seeds.  These tiny seeds are packed with Omega 3’s, protein, antioxidants and fiber.  They can be used yogurt, oatmeal, baked goods and of course – my favorite, smoothies!  Look for them at Costco, Whole Foods, Sprouts, other health foods stores and even some big box stores.  You can also get the from using my link by clicking on the photo below.

My overall philosophy about smoothies and food in general is that it not only has to be good for me, it also has to taste good.  I like to pack as much beauty, flavor and nutrition into everything that I eat or drink.  Food, time and money is too valuable to waste on bad choices.  I hope these recommendations help.  Please let me know what you think by using any of my social media contacts listed in this article.
