Apple Cranberry Crisp

There almost nothing better and more comforting from a culinary point of view than a warm and tasty fruit crisp brimming with seasonal offerings and a buttery, crunchy oat topping!  Here’s one of my family’s favorite desserts.

Apple Cranberry Crisp

Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Serves: Approx 20½ cup servings
  • Filling:4 21 oz cans apple pie filling or topping
  • ¾ cup organic natural sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg, optional
  • 3 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • 1½ cups fresh or dried cranberries (I used fresh.)
  • Topping:1½ cups flour
  • ½ cup organic natural sugar
  • ½ cup butter, cut into cubes
  • ¾ cup rolled oats (not quick cooking)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  1. Filling - Mix together all ingredients except the vanilla in a large dutch oven.
  2. Cook for 20 minutes over medium heat, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  3. Lower heat, add in vanilla.
  4. Cook an additional 10 minutes.
  5. Pour into an oven proof dish.
  6. Topping - Blend evenly with a slotted spoon and crumble over apple mixture.
  7. Bake 375 degrees 25 minutes or until topping begins to brown.
  8. Slightly fluff up topping for even browning.
  9. Bake an additional 15 minutes until fruit bubbles in the middle and topping is golden brown.
  10. Let cool a bit and serve with dare I say it . . . vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped topping.
