Clark Atlanta University Success

Clark Atlanta University ~ May Weekend 2014

Clark Atlanta University ~ May Weekend 2014

An edited repost from my Facebook profile page.  IMPORTANT: Thirty-five years ago today, I graduated from Clark College in Atlanta, GA, along with over 400 other bright eyed and ambitious young people. Twenty-eight years ago today I had My Firstborn, Jared. On Monday, I was blessed to be able to attend the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) graduation for the first time in it’s 25 year history.

Seven hundred and twelve students crossed the stage in Panther Stadium. The emotions I felt were just as fresh as though I were graduating myself. So to them I say, “No matter where life’s paths take you – go with gusto, excitement and #PantherPride. You have been uniquely prepared for the challenges and rewards – both personally and professionally. Don’t forget to give back to YOUR university via the Clark Atlanta University Office of Alumni Relations past the one year membership included in your Senior Fees. Help keep the path open for students like yourself who will come behind you.

To my Clark College Class of ’79 it’s been an amazing 35 years. We’ve started families, businesses, careers and gained advanced degrees from institutions across the country and world. Being on campus and seeing the grounds, staff, students, etc reinforced the FACT that WE need to CONTINUE AND INCREASE our level of giving and involvement in OUR university. What Gay-linn Gatewood-Jasho and her staff were able to accomplish with limited resources was sobering and encouraging at the same time. But the fact remains that we must do more if we are to remain and grow as “One Exceptional University” Clark Atlanta University!

Recently we had a 7.9 Day Virtual Fundraising Drive to raise $7900 in honor of our 35th Class Reunion. While we DID NOT make our goal, our participation and interest level increased over the nine month friendraising/fundraising effort. This encourages me and hopefully you also. If you gave during this effort, I personally thank you. The university thanks you.  The students thank you.  IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO GIVE!  An additional point: If your company offers a matching gifts program, please provide that information and follow through with your HR department to ensure that the funds are properly and promptly forwarded to CAU.

Lastly, I was privileged to meet Ms. Trisa Long Paschal, CAU’s new VP for Institutional Advancement and University Relations. Even though our discussion was brief, I was encouraged by her experience and dedication to helping move OUR university forward in a more inclusive and financially stable manner. We exchanged information and I fully expect that we will be able to work together with our common goals of supporting and strengthening CAU.

Visit my Facebook profile here for the complete post and comments.  It was so encouraging to have the positive feedback from fellow alums.
