28 Days of SELF~LOVE (Day 4)

28 Days of SELF-LOVE-2

February is a busy month for birthdays in my circle.  Today marks the second birthday of two of my sisters.  Rosiland’s birthday was yesterday.  Marian’s is today.  I’m wishing them again a Happy Birthday, along with DeBorah, Veronica, Dee, and others.  I hope each of them will take time to show themselves some SELF~LOVE as a regular part of their lives.  In fact, that we all will – not waiting for our birthday, a holiday or a special event.  Because really, everyday that we are alive is blessing.  And as the “old” church folks would say, “I’ve got the activity of my limbs.  That my bed didn’t become my cooling board. And my sheets didn’t become my winding cloths!”  Such plain talk and so much wisdom.  We’re alive, in good health and we can make a difference in our lives and those of others.

Speaking of that, when was the last time you caught up with your good girlfriend(s)?  Don’t you miss them?  Reach out to her to see what’s going on in her life.  Share what’s going on in yours.  Invest in them by sharing your most valuable asset – your time.  We were not meant to live isolated from each other, especially women.  We generally do better in community where we can share, support and learn from each other.  I know we’re all “busy”, but there’s no substitute for developing and nurturing deep and abiding friendships.

Think about the quilting circles, the stitching groups, the book clubs, the Church Ladies who cook and take care of the behind the scenes doings of the church, the mommy groups, the travel clubs, the Women’s Ministry Groups, the sororities, etc.  Do you belong to any of these groups?  Are they providing needed support and encouragement?   What do you bring to the “party”?  Are you reflecting a sense of SELF~LOVE (vs selfishness) by the way you treat yourself?  Are you being loving to others in the group?  It’s pretty difficult to treat others with a loving spirit if we don’t first start with ourselves.

Girlfriends in SELF~LOVE

Over the past two weeks, I’ve had a wonderful time of connecting/reconnecting with some girlfriends.  Being intentional to make time for them and grateful that they’ve made time for me.  A scheduled breakfast meeting; a hospital visit with a special gift for a birthday girl; a Women’s Ministry gathering; a church photo op; an impromptu dinner (I’m prone to dropping everything for visiting over food) – that’s what friendship is all about.  Putting ourselves out there, being vulnerable, being available – being a friend.  And don’t forget to take pictures!  It is one of the best ways to document history (her-story) – OUR history!  It’s a joy to see smiling faces looking at you – especially women, because we are the heart of our households and our communities.  Let’s keep our friendships going, keep smiling and keep showing SELF~LOVE!

More tomorrow.
